I tested out the aluminum version as well. It’s a bit heavier than the Carbon Fiber tripod, but comes at a much more approachable price. I lugged it to the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park but didn’t notice the weight, and was impressed by how quickly I was able to set it up.

Despite there being quite a bit of wind on the summit, my photos showed no evidence of tripod shake, and the legs gripped the slippery granite easily. I felt confident setting up some interval shooting and then walking away to enjoy the sunrise for myself.

I’ll be honest, I’ve found it most useful when shooting events and sports with a second camera body. It’s also great for relaxing hikes through the Pine Barrens or along the shore. Many of the hikes I do involve a lot of scrambling, and for that, I prefer to have my camera tucked away.
