2023 Mazda 3: Slimmed-down vary hit with value hike

Mazda Australia has detailed the list pricing of the updated 3 hatchback and sedan range ahead of its local launch in July.

The updated Mazda 3 range, which is now devoid of manual transmission and mild-hybrid options, is between $1610 and $2310 more expensive depending on the variant.

The Mazda 3 range now starts at $30,320 before on-roads for the G20 Pure hatch and sedan, and extends to $42,320 before on-roads for the G25 Astina hatch and sedan. A full price list is at the bottom of this story.

Despite the price rise, the flagship Mazda 3 G25 Astina is still cheaper than the now-defunct X20 Astina, which was priced from $43,310 before on-roads.

The optional Vision Technology package now costs $2000 on the G20 Pure, G20 Evolve, G20 Touring, and G25 Evolve SP, which is up $500; it costs an unchanged $1500 on the G25 GT. The pack is standard on the flagship G25 Astina.

This package currently adds features like a surround-view camera, Cruising & Traffic Support, driver monitoring, front cross-traffic alert, and front parking sensors.

Owners who opt for the Vision Technology package on the G20 Pure, G20 Evolve, G20 Touring, and G25 Evolve SP will now also receive a larger 10.25-inch Mazda Connect infotainment system, hence the higher $2000 price tag.

This larger 10.25-inch screen, which is already used on the CX-5, CX-8 and CX-9, is standard on the G25 GT, hence the unchanged $1500 price tag for the Vision Technology package.

The larger screen is also standard on the flagship Mazda 3 G25 Astina.

A highlight of this update is Mazda 3 G20 models with the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine now receive cylinder deactivation and “other improvements to the combustion process”, claimed to lower CO2 emissions without any compromise to performance or drivability.

The Japanese carmaker claims fuel consumption for these G20 models has improved by five per cent, with the hatch claimed to consume 5.9L/100km and the sedan claimed to consume 5.8L/100km.

It’s expected all versions of the Mazda 3 will move to longer 15,000km service intervals (up from 10,000km) with this update.

There have also been upgrades to the Mazda 3’s in-car tech. G20 Touring grades and above now receive wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging and USB-C ports.

Lastly, Ceramic Metallic exterior paint replaces Sonic Silver in the model’s eight-strong colour palette. Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Machine Grey Metallic, and Polymetal Grey Metallic cost an additional $595.

It’s likely the related CX-30 crossover will soon receive a similar set of updates for 2023.

The updated Mazda 3 range is priced as follows:

  • 2023 Mazda 3 G20 Pure: $30,320 (+$2160)
  • 2023 Mazda 3 G20 Evolve: $31,870 (+$2160)
  • 2023 Mazda 3 G20 Touring: $34,520 (+$2310)
  • 2023 Mazda 3 G25 Evolve SP: $34,520 (+$1410)
  • 2023 Mazda 3 G25 GT: $38,420 (+$1610)
  • 2023 Mazda 3 G25 Astina: $42,320 (+$2010)

All prices are before on-road costs, and sedan and hatch models cost the same.
