The UBCO 2×2 electric motorcycle offers two-wheel drive, a 75-mile range, a 30 mph top speed, and can carry up to 330 pounds (including the rider). For 2023, UBCO is offering its first special edition of the e-moto. The 2023 UBCO SE comes in a unique green/black with an orange accent color scheme, has a new braking system and a new seat, and is fully loaded with accessories.
“We’re all about making adventure more accessible, opening up powersports to more people than ever before. Here we combine proven off-road toughness with added style and functionality to bridge the gap between the great outdoors and everyday life,” says Colin Godby, UBCO’s Chief Product Officer.
“The idea is to introduce more urbanites to exploring off the beaten track, while providing a bike that seamlessly crosses both worlds, whether everyday errands, hitting the gym, commuting, surfing, or outdoor adventures. We’re excited to see how our Special Edition can help this movement.”
What Is an UBCO?
UBCO stands for utility bike company. The company is based in New Zealand and runs its North American operations out of Oregon.
With twist-and-go simplicity — no clutch, so an automatic motorcycle — the UBCO 2×2 electric motorcycle is easy to ride for just about anyone. I’ve spent some time on one over the years and can attest to how fun and responsive they are. Hub motors in each wheel provide a unique two-wheel drive propulsion system that works quite well at finding traction, even in muddy fields, on sandy beaches, or on packed snowy roadways.
The Adventure model and new SE are both DOT-approved for on-road use. This means LED lighting that includes a headlight, a taillight, and turn signals at both ends of the bike.
The UBCO 2×2 Adventure — which the SE is based upon — weighs 155 pounds (40-45 pounds is the removable battery), which means it is easily carried by most hitch bike racks. It is 6 feet long and offers a low 32-inch seat height — so it’s easily ridable by a wide range of riders.
UBCO offers a one-year warranty on its bikes and 2 years on its batteries.
UBCO SE Upgrades
For this special edition, UBCO has upgraded the braking system with heavier-duty pads, much larger rotors, beefy four-piston calipers, and more substantial brake levers. This combo should offer substantially improved braking performance.
The seat has also been redesigned for greater comfort around town and ergonomics to fit a wider range of riders. It has been reshaped with less curvature to allow riders to move forward and back with ease.
Each 2023 UBCO SE is also uniquely numbered, out of 1,000 limited-run builds. A logo on the rear swingarm denotes this special edition and unique number.
2023 UBCO Special Edition Accessories: Front to Back
The front cargo rack features two Giant Loop Pronghorn Straps. These are Voile-type multi-purpose stretch straps that make it quick and easy to secure a wide range of gear.
Just behind the handlebar stem of the 2023 UBCO Special Edition, you’ll find a smartphone mount. Not just any phone mount, but a vibration isolating, magnetic, and mechanically locking Peak Design mount. Also included is a Peak Design universal adaptor for your phone case. I’ve used this motorcycle mount and the full line of Peak Design mobile products and can attest to how awesome they are.
In the center of the bike, atop the battery, is a Center Carry-All. It’s an open-top design that is more bin than bag. It is perfect for quickly stowing a wide range of odd-shaped products — just toss stuff in and go. Think basket for your hot date in the city park or a quick grocery run for those last-minute needed ingredients.
A UBCO 30L rear bag offers even more weatherproof urban utilitarian storage. A large main pocket offers the most storage volume, but side pockets on the bag fold down to offer even more space and hold things like a laptop or pizza box. Weatherproof materials and zippers, along with welded seams, mean your gear will stay dry and clean no matter the riding conditions.
2023 UBCO SE: Availability & Pricing
The 2023 UBCO 2×2 SE is available to purchase through UBCO’s website and dealer network starting today, February 23, 2023. It is priced at $6,999. It is also a limited-edition build, with only 1,000 being built worldwide.
If you don’t want all the Special Edition accessories or aren’t into the green/black with orange accent color scheme, you can still purchase a UBCO 2×2 Adventure, which the SE is built upon, in white or black. The retail price of the UBCO Adventure with the larger 3.1KwH battery — the same one in the SE — is $7,999. But, right now there are rebates on the Black and White bikes. Current prices are $6,999 and $5,999, respectively.
If you just want your e-moto for off-road adventures, then the non-DOT-approved and more off-road-focused UBCO 2×2 Work model is for you. The current pricing with the larger battery is $5,999 on the Work model.
When comparing the pricing of the other models, the Special Edition is quite the value!
