2024 BMW iX2 spied | CarExpert

BMW’s upcoming electric coupe SUV has been spied testing in the snow.

The BMW iX2 is set to debut this year as a 2024 model, sharing its underpinnings with the more upright iX1.

Unlike the outgoing X2, the upcoming model has a more overtly coupe SUV-like shape, similar to that of the larger X4 and X6.

The vehicle will use the same underpinnings as the iX1 and likely feature a similar interior design, including the BMW Curved Display that sees a touchscreen and digital instrument cluster in the same assembly.

It may receive the Android-based BMW Operating System 9, reportedly set to be rolled out across the X1 range this year.

It’s expected the boot capacity will be lesser than the iX1 – 540L – given the rakish tail gate.

The iX1 xDrive30 has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system making a combined 230kW and 494Nm, good for a claimed 100km/h sprint time of 5.6 seconds.

There’s a 65kWh battery beneath the floor, and claimed range is up to 440km on the WLTP test cycle.

Its 22kW AC charge capability means single- or three-phase AC chargers will work, while the DC charge ceiling is 130kW.

When charging at this rate, the battery can be taken from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in a claimed 29 minutes.

The current X2 debuted in 2017, and has been offered with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid power, depending on the market.

It has never, however, been offered with electric power. The new iX2 will go up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Lexus UX300e, as well as the Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback. Only the latter isn’t offered in Australia.
