2024 BMW iX3 value and specs

BMW has expanded its iX3 electric SUV range for 2024, adding a new, more affordable base model.

The new iX3 M Sport is priced at $89,100 before on-road costs, with the M Sport Pro priced at $104,900 before on-roads.

Previously, a single variant was offered, costing $114,900 before on-road costs.

The revised range is due before the end of 2023.

The new base model slides in under the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles while also being eligible for the Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) electric car exemption.

Both models are mechanically identical, featuring the same single-motor rear-wheel drive powertrain.

An integrated drive unit houses the motor, transmission and power electronics in a single housing, with the Chinese-built iX3 using BMW’s latest eDrive system.

There’s also a start/stop acoustic sequence composed by Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer.

The M Sport Pro is closer to the previous, standalone iX3 variant, though it gains an expanded Shadow Line treatment on its exterior.

The M Sport cuts some features to reach a lower price point, including the 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, surround-view camera and five-year Chargefox subscription. It also swaps the 20-inch alloy wheels for smaller 19s.

Pricing

  • 2024 BMW iX3 M Sport: $89,100
  • 2024 BMW iX3 M Sport Pro: $104,900

All prices exclude on-road costs.

Drivetrains

All 2024 BMW iX3 models use a single-motor rear-wheel drive powertrain and an 80kWh lithium-ion battery.

This motor produces 210kW of power and 400Nm of torque, good for a claimed 0-100km/h time of 6.8 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 180km/h.

Efficiency

Both variants of the 2024 BMW iX3 have an electric range of 460km on the stricter WLTP test cycle.

They support single-phase AC charging at up to 7.4kW and three-phase charging at up to 11kW.

Both can be plugged into a DC fast-charging station and charged at a rate of up to 150kW, where it’ll take 32 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 per cent. A 10-minute charge adds 100km of driving range.

Energy consumption is a claimed 18.9kWh/100km.

Dimensions

The 2024 BMW iX3 measures 4734mm long, 1891mm wide and 1668mm tall on a 2864mm wheelbase.

It has 510L of luggage space, expanding to 1560L with the rear seats folded. Under the boot floor is a tyre repair kit.

Braked and unbraked towing capacity is 750kg, while payload is 545kg.

Servicing and Warranty

The BMW iX3 is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and an eight-year, 160,000km battery warranty.

BMW offers the iX3 with a six-year, unlimited-kilometre Service Inclusive Basic pack for $1900. An available Plus package also includes coverage for items like replacement brake pads and discs and wiper blades.

Safety

The BMW iX3 has a five-star rating from ANCAP, based on testing conducted of the related X3 back in 2017. This means the current rating will expire in December 2023.

It received an adult occupant protection rating of 93 per cent, a child occupant protection rating of 84 per cent, a pedestrian protection rating of 70 per cent, and a safety assist rating of 58 per cent.
