The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor will be easier to tow with thanks to a new feature.
The Ranger Raptor now receives Ford’s Pro Trailer Backup Assist as standard. This feature debuted locally in the F-150 full-size pickup last year.
It’ll appear as part of what Ford calls a MY24.5 update, with vehicles entering production in March and arriving at showrooms mid-year.
“The driver ‘steers’ the trailer via the outer ring of the drive mode controller on the centre console,” said Ford advanced driver assist systems engineer Zack McIntyre.
“As the driver turns the dial, the steering wheel, which the driver doesn’t need to touch during the manoeuvre, turns to direct the trailer where it needs to go.”
To activate the Pro Trailer Backup Assist, the driver needs to press the trailer icon on the drive mode selector dial, then use the outer ring to steer the trailer.
There’s a “special sticker” placed on the draw bar of the trailer that helps the system track the trailer angle when reversing.
Despite the new Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature, the asking price for the Ranger Raptor remains unchanged. It currently starts at $89,190 before on-road costs.

Drivetrain
The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor is powered by a 3.0-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 petrol engine producing 292kW of power and 583Nm of torque.
This is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with drive sent through a full-time four-wheel drive system.
There are a variety of drive modes that change the vehicle’s throttle response, gearshifts, traction control and ABS. They are as follows:

Fuel Economy
The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor has a claimed combined cycle fuel economy figure of 11.5 litres per 100km.
It has an 80-litre fuel tank and requires a minimum of 98 RON premium unleaded petrol in order to unlock the engine’s fuel power and torque figures.
Dimensions
The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor measures in at 5380mm long, 2208mm wide, and 1926mm tall, with a 3270mm wheelbase.
Its tub measures in at 1541mm long, 1578mm wide (1218mm between the wheel arches), and 526mm tall.
The Ranger Raptor has a braked towing capacity of 2500kg and an unbraked towing capacity of 750kg.
Maximum payload is 708kg, the gross vehicle mass (GVM) is 3130kg, and gross combination mass (GCM) is 5370kg.
Servicing and Warranty
The Ford Ranger is covered a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, like the rest of the Ford line-up.
Logbook servicing is required every 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first. The first four services are capped at $379.
Safety
The regular Ford Ranger received a five-star ANCAP safety rating based on testing conducted in 2022, though this rating doesn’t extend to the Raptor. It remains unrated.
