2024 Jeep Wrangler says goodbye to the petrol V6

Jeep Australia has detailed a range of changes to its iconic Wrangler off-roader for the 2024 model year ahead of its arrival at dealers from April 2024.

The company hasn’t detailed pricing for the updated Wrangler just. For context, the MY23 range currently starts at $81,450 before on-roads and extends to $90,450 before on-roads.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler will continue to be offered in four variants locally. A new Sport S four-door variant replaces the Night Eagle four-door.

There’s also the Overland four-door, as well as the flagship Rubicon two- and four-door variants.

For the 2024 model year the venerable 3.6-litre Pentastar naturally aspirated V6 petrol engine has been axed and replaced by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 200kW of power and 400Nm of torque.

This produces 9kW less power yet 53Nm more torque than the V6 engine. Jeep claims power is delivered at a lower RPM and that it’s more fuel efficient.

Despite the engine change the towing capacity remains unchanged. All four-door models have a braked towing capacity of 2495kg, while the Rubicon two-door can tow 1497kg.

All Wrangler models receive Dana solid front and rear axles, five-link front and rear suspension, high-strength upper and lower steel control arms, full-width high-strength steel track bars, tuned shocks, a two-speed transfer case, and four skid plates.

Sport S and Overland models receive a Selec-Trac 4×4 System which provides automatic two- and four-wheel drive transitions.

Rubicon models on the other hand come standard with the Rock-Trac 4×4 system, offering a 4:1 low-gear ratio, Tru-Lok electronic locking front and rear differentials, and an electronic front sway bar disconnect.

They also receive a HD Dana 44 full-float rear axle that improves lateral force camber compliance and allows for larger tyres to be fitted, as well as a TrailCam that’s claimed to eliminate close-proximity blind spots during trail navigation.

On the outside the Jeep Wrangler now receives an updated seven-slot grille with black textured slots, metallic bezels, and a body-colour surround.

A new “trail-ready stealth antenna” is integrated into the front “Gorilla Glass”. This means the antenna won’t get snagged on brush or tree limbs anymore.

The updated Jeep Wrangler also comes with new alloy wheel designs that range from 17 to 18 inches in diameter.

Inside, the Wrangler has been updated with a heritage-inspired dashboard that features soft-touch surfaces and contrast stitching.

There’s a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that runs the Uconnect 5 system. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

All models also receive “enhanced” hands-free voice recognition which utilises microphone array technology, as well as an integrated accessory rail atop the dash for mounting devices like phones or action cameras.

The entry-level Sport S now receives standard heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and ambient lighting.

Overland and Rubicon models now also receive 12-way power front seats with four-way lumbar, as well as a hard seat back panel.

On the safety front, all Wrangler models receive first- and second-row side curtain airbags, as well as front and side seat-mounted airbags.
