The new-generation 2024 Toyota C-HR hybrid crossover has officially been revealed, with Australian details confirmed ahead of a local market launch during the first half of next year.
Picking up where the distinctively styled first iteration left off, the second-gen C-HR once again pushes the design envelope with concept-esque styling reminiscent of the latest Prius, combined with the latest in powertrain and safety tech the Japanese giant has to offer.
When it arrives in Australia during the first half of 2024, the C-HR will arrive as a hybrid-only proposition across three distinct trim levels – GXL, Koba and GR Sport.
A new 103kW 1.8-litre hybrid drivetrain shared with the Corolla will power the 2WD GXL and Koba variants, which is a 15 per cent bump in power compared to the existing 90kW C-HR Hybrid.
Topping the range will be the new C-HR GR Sport, debuting the beefier 2.0-litre hybrid system with E-Four all-wheel drive – boasting front and rear electric motors – and a system power output of 145kW.
All drivetrains in the 2024 Toyota C-HR line-up utilise the brand’s latest fifth-generation hybrid technology, which includes a new transaxle and power control unit (PCU), as well as a more powerful high-voltage battery pack to “provide an optimal balance of performance and fuel economy”.
Externally, the new C-HR is marginally shorter in length than its predecessor but also wider, giving it a more athletic stance. This is accentuated by the coupe-like side profile, and available 19-inch alloy wheels.
It’s very close in overall look to the C-HR Prologue Concept that previewed it, with a new front end that “presents a new face for Toyota SUVs designed to deliver a strong emotive appeal”.
Inside, the eco-friendly concept continues with extended use of recycled plastics – double that of the first generation – including more than 100 different parts such as seat fabrics made from recycled PET bottles.
There’s also a new panoramic roof design featuring infra-red reducing coatings to help the interior “maintain at more even temperatures”, which Toyota claims negates the need for a conventional sunshade. This alone shaves 5kg in weight and frees up 30mm more headroom for occupants.
Other available features include a swish new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen running Toyota’s latest multimedia interface, sporting wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto. Toyota Connected Services also feature.
