2024 Toyota HiLux GR Sport priced from $73,990

Toyota Australia has detailed and priced its forthcoming HiLux GR Sport flagship ute ahead its local launch ahead of its launch in September.

The 2024 Toyota HiLux GR Sport is priced from $73,990 before on-road costs, which makes it the most expensive version of the top-selling ute to be sold locally. It’s $3230 more expensive than the recently updated HiLux Rogue.

As previously reported, the HiLux GR Sport is powered by a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 165kW of power and 550Nm of torque. This makes it the most powerful diesel-powered HiLux ever.

The turbo-diesel engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that’s been tuned to support the extra power and torque, with drive sent through a part-time four-wheel drive system.

The HiLux GR Sport sits on the same “wide-track” platform as the HiLux Rogue, with a 15mm increase in height and a track width increase of 135mm at the front and 155mm at the rear.

There’s different front coil and rear leaf spring tuning that further differentiates the GR Sport from the rest of the HiLux range. It’s also equipped with KYB monotube shock absorbers with a larger piston diameter.

The rear sway bar has also been removed, which allows for greater axle articulation and ground contact over uneven surfaces.

The HiLux GR Sport comes with unique black 17-inch “Dakar style” alloy wheels that are wrapped in 265/65 R17 Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tyres.

There are disc brakes on all four wheels, with 338mm x 28mm four-piston fixed calipers at the front and 312mm x 18mm single-piston floating calipers at the rear. They’re also painted red.

At the front there’s a redesigned bumper that improves the approach angle compared to the core HiLux range, and has new fog lamp bezels and a silver lower moulding that sits above a uniquely developed skid plate for extra underbody protection.

There’s also a unique black mesh grille contrasted with Toyota lettering and a GR badge.

Around the side there are large black wheel arch flares, designed to accommodate the wider track width and which also incorporate aero ducts at the front.

There are also powder-coated heavy-duty rock rails made from 2mm thick steel that help protect the door sills and vehicle underbody.

At the rear there are red recovery points, a black rear bumper finish, and a pre-installed towbar, towball and trailer wiring harness.

Inside the HiLux GR Sport gets a “rally-inspired” leather-wrapped steering wheels with paddle shifters, red centre strip and a GR logo.

Other interior highlights include unique front sports seats that are upholstered in a mix of leather and suede, red seat belts, aluminium pedals, “Technical Mesh” dashboard ornamentation, GR Sport shift lever, all-weather floor mats, and a nine-speaker JBL sound system.

The Toyota HiLux GR Sport will be offered in five exterior paint colours. These include the following:

  • Glacier White
  • Frosted White
  • Stunning Silver
  • Eclipse Black
  • Feverish Red

Glacier White, Frosted White and Feverish Red are also available with the option of a black-painted roof.

Toyota Australia says full specification details for the HiLux GR Sport will be announced closer to its local launch in September.
