2024 Vary Rover: New powertrains, extra customisation coming

The flagship Range Rover loses its petrol P400 powertrain for 2024, but gains a new plug-in hybrid option, a more powerful SV flagship, and a new SV Bespoke customisation service.

Full pricing and specifications for the 2024 model year have yet to be released, however the rejigged range opens at $250,350 before on-road costs for the HSE D350. It’s available to order now, ahead of first customer deliveries in November-December.

For 2024, the Range Rover line-up gets the latest generation of JLR’s Pivi Pro infotainment system with a 13.1-inch touchscreen and new sidebars to improve usability.

The Range Rover’s Terrain Response system also gains off-road adaptive cruise control with four different settings and Country Road Assist technology, which uses navigation data to adjust the set speed to account for bends in the road and changes to the speed limit.

Dynamic Response Pro electric roll control technology also features in the range, using actuators capable of delivering up to 1400Nm of torque to each axle.

A new P460e plug-in hybrid powertrain joins the Australian range, featuring a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine mated with a 160kW electric motor for a total system output of 338kW.

Land Rover Australia has made no mention of the new P550e offered in other markets, though it says the long-wheelbase body will now be available with plug-in hybrid power.

The twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 in the upgraded SV flagship also gains a mild-hybrid system, producing 452kW of power and 750Nm of torque.

For context, the P530 twin-turbo 4.4-litre available from launch produces 390kW and 750Nm.

The mild-hybrid system is said to improve the smoothness of the stop/start system and reduce CO2 emissions, harvesting energy when braking and improving responsiveness when accelerating.

A new SV Bespoke service is available only on Autobiography and SV models, and allows buyers to choose from up to 391 interior material colourways and 230 exterior colours in the SV Bespoke palette.

There’s also a Match to Sample service for exterior colours, as well as unique embroidery and detailing available – you can even have badging finished in 24ct gold.
