2024 Volkswagen Tiguan filmed undisguised throughout advert shoot

The third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan has been spotted completely undisguised driving down a main road in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.

Due to be revealed later this year, the new Tiguan was spied during a video shoot, likely for the vehicle’s launch advertising campaign.

As we’ve seen in both spy photos and official teasers, the new Tiguan will be an evolutionary redesign riding on updated mechanicals.

Even though the resolution of the video posted by Avtomanija TV is pretty low, we can see the key change is a slightly smoothed out design, including less austere surfacing and prominent wheel arch blisters, and rounder styling elements, especially for the headlights and tail-lights.

The upper grille is completely non-functional, and consists of a gloss black piece of plastic topped with a light bar that links up with the driving lights. At the back, the tail-lights are slimmer and stretch across the entire width of the tailgate.

This car also includes gloss black wheel arch protectors, and prominent chrome trim across the front fascia and rear bumper. Given its use in launch advertising, we presume the car seen here is a top-of-the-line model.

Under the skin, the Tiguan is thought to ride on the MQB Evo architecture, and will be offered with a selection of  diesel, petrol, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid drivetrains.

We understand Volkswagen Australia is pushing for a greater selection of drivetrains to be available Down Under, including the upgraded PHEV system that’s said to offer 100km of EV driving, as well as faster AC charging and new DC fast charging support.

Unlike the current Tiguan, which is available in both short wheelbase and Allspace long wheelbase forms, the new model will only be offered in one size.

Measuring 4551mm long, 1939mm wide, and riding on a 2681mm wheelbase, the third-generation Tiguan is 32mm longer than today’s SWB model, but shares that car’s width and wheelbase.

The Tiguan Allspace is expected to replaced by a new version of the Tayron. Currently the Tayron is a China exclusive model with distinct styling, and sized between the SWB and LWB versions of the Tiguan.

Inside, the new Tiguan will sport a central touchscreen measuring up to 15 inches diagonally, and a transmission shifter that’s been moved from the centre tunnel to near the instrument pod.

Options include improved seats with heating, cooling and massaging, and adaptive damping.
