30% Switch Bonus from Chase Final Rewards to British Airways Govt Membership

Earlier this week, Chase introduced a 30% transfer bonus from Chase Ultimate Rewards to British Airways Executive Club.

This transfer bonus event runs until September 22, 2023, which leaves just under a month to take advantage of the bonus to book upcoming travel on Oneworld airlines.

30% Transfer Bonus from Chase Ultimate Rewards to British Airways Executive Club

Until September 22, 2023, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to British Airways Executive Club and receive a 30% bonus.

Points are normally transferred at a 1:1 ratio between Chase Ultimate Rewards and British Airways Executive Club, with a minimum transfer amount of 1,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards, and in increments of 1,000 points thereafter.

With the 30% bonus, you’ll receive a total of 1,300 Avios for every 1,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards transferred.

Note that this transfer bonus is also applicable to Iberia Plus and Aer Lingus AerClub. However, since all three loyalty programs use Avios as a points currency, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to any program, and then move them around from within the Avios ecosystem.

This transfer promotion is only available for those who have access to cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards.

For Canadians, this requires building some history with US credit cards first, and with the relatively short window of opportunity for this transfer bonus, it’s likely not possible to apply for a card and take advantage of the promotion.

It’s worth noting that there’s a concurrent 30% transfer bonus from American Express US Membership Rewards to British Airways Executive Club, which ends on August 31, 2023.

If you’ve been waiting to boost your Avios balance for an upcoming redemption, now is a prime opportunity for you to transfer from two points currencies to British Airways Executive Club with a 30% bonus.

The last transfer bonus from Chase Ultimate Rewards to British Airways Executive Club occurred in late 2021, which was also for 30%. Historically, this has been the standard, so if you’ve been holding out, now is as good a time as any to make a transfer.

Is This Transfer Bonus a Good Deal?

Whenever a transfer bonus is available, it’s a good idea to take stock of how you can leverage the opportunity to your advantage.

The transfer bonus effectively reduces the cost of an Avios redemption by 30%, which can make sweet spots even sweeter.

One of the more attractive uses of Avios is to book Qatar Airways Qsuites, which is widely considered to be one of the best business class products in the world.

Keep in mind that you can instantly transfer different “flavours” of Avios between accounts, to take advantage of sweet spots in different programs that use Avios as a currency.

For example, you can transfer British Airways Avios to Qatar Airways Avios, which effectively ports the current transfer bonus over to Qatar Airways Avios.

Usually, a one-way flight from most cities in North America to Doha costs 70,000 Avios and around $116 USD ($157 CAD) in taxes and fees. With the 30% transfer bonus, that number effectively drops down to 53,846 Chase Ultimate Rewards.

Factoring in the 30% transfer bonus, one welcome bonus from a card such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred would be more than enough for a flight in Qsuites — assuming you can find availability, which has been a challenge as of late.

Another great use of Avios is to fly to Europe in Aer Lingus business class on off-peak dates. This itinerary usually costs 50,000 Avios and around $164 USD ($223 CAD) in taxes and fees; however, factoring in the 30% transfer bonus, you’ll only need 38,462 Chase Ultimate Rewards.

Altneratively, you could transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to Iberia Plus, and take advantage of one of the cheapest ways to fly to Europe in business class.

A one-way off-peak business class flight from the US East Coast to Madrid costs 34,000 Avios; however, with the 30% transfer bonus factored in, the effective cost drops ‌to just 26,153 Chase Ultimate Rewards.

As long as you can find availability, it doesn’t get much cheaper than that.

Conclusion

Chase is offering a 30% bonus for transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards to British Airways Executive Club.

By taking advantage of this transfer bonus, you could be able to score a business class flight for a significant discount. Just be sure to locate award availability first, and then transfer points over with a specific use lined up.

Keep in mind that this transfer bonus is available when transferring to Iberia Plus and Aer Lingus AerClub, too, so you can choose to transfer to whichever program you’d like to use for a redemption.

Make sure to take advantage before September 22, 2023 to boost up your Avios balance with a 30% bonus.
