A 71-year old women is on the brink of losing her driver’s licence after her number plates were allegedly cloned after she posted her car on Facebook Marketplace.
7News reports Daniela Pobega currently has nine demerit points as a result of three speeding offences that occurred on the Ring Road in Ardeer, in Melbourne’s north-west, early in September.
She also has $1100 worth of speeding fines and toll invoices in her name.
The then-owner of the Audi A3 lives 110km away from where the speeding fines were captured, on the Mornington Peninsula.
“I’m not travelling up and down (the Ring Rd) every day, especially at my age,” Ms Pobega told 7News.
After posting her Audi A3 on Facebook Marketplace, the woman believes her licence plates were cloned and put on a similar vehicle so as not to raise suspicion with Victorian Police.
Facebook Marketplace doesn’t automatically blur plates as some other classifieds sites do.
According to 7News, the vehicle was sold on September 20 and the new owner also received incorrect speeding fines and toll invoices.
“The same thing was happening to him, he was getting invoices from Linkt,” Ms Pobega said to 7News.
The new driver of the Audi A3 has reportedly changed the plates, while Ms Pobega is contesting the fines in a bid to retain her licence.
