Punta Bulata – The hidden tropical haven of Negros Occidental

Review: Punta Bulata Beach Resort in Negros Occidental, Philippines

There are plenty of attractions to enjoy in Negros, but if you fancy an extra amount of peace and quiet, then Punta Bulata White Beach Resort and Spa might be the perfect place for you.

This tropical haven is situated in Barangay Elihan Cauayan, Negros Occidental. From the Bacolod city center, it takes more or less 4 hours of public transport to get there. If long travel doesn’t turn you off, read on to see for yourself whether this getaway is worth your energy.

The Resort

This paradise takes great pride in its powdery white sand. Along the shore, it will be hard not to notice those coconut trees that lean towards the sea, as if they too want to soak their bodies in the crystal-clear water.

There are several free-to-use spots around the resort where you can hang out. You can spend some quality time at the swings or hammocks, feel the morning breeze while sipping a cup of coffee under one of the gazebos, or just lay a blanket on the sand to have a cute picnic setup.

The resort features an infinity pool with a breathtaking view of the Sulu Sea. Take a relaxing afternoon dip and witness how the sky will change its hues as the sun slowly descends into the sea.

La Veranda by Punta Bulata

There are very few dining places around Punta Bulata because of its remote location. If you’d rather stay at the resort, it’s very own La Veranda – a massive nipa hut restaurant with a front beach view, – offers a wide selection of both local and international cuisine. You can enjoy your meal at the restaurant or closer to the shore at the gazebos.

Chicken inasal, mirene pizza, satay pork barbecue, and fish curry with kaffir lime are the best sellers. The main dishes cost around 150 to 560 PHP. Alcoholic beverages are also served. Overall, the quality and price tag of the food are mostly reasonable.

Accommodation

Punta Bulata Resort offers a variety of accommodations that include a complimentary breakfast. The rooms range from traditional Filipino nipa huts to elegant spas or family rooms. Guests can check in at 2 in the afternoon and must check out by 12 noon on the following day. For two people, expect to spend around P4200 to P7100, depending on the room. Most can fit up to four, but for an additional fee. Bigger accommodations that can host up to six have a kitchen area and dining room and will let you bring food from outside. Rates may vary during peak seasons. The updated list of prices is posted on their official website.

Getting there

  1. (20 minutes) From the Bacolod-Silay Airport, ride a taxi or van to Ceres South Terminal.
  2. (3.5 hours) Take a Ceres bus going to Sipalay or Hinobaan. The buses usually leave every 45 minutes. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at the Bangga Salamat Po or simply mention that you are headed to Punta Bulata Resort & Spa.
  3. (20 minutes) From the drop-off point, take a tricycle or habal-habal (motorcycle) until you reach the resort.

For more information and promos, you may also visit their website at https://puntabulata.com/ and FB Page at https://www.facebook.com/puntabulata/. One of the things that I appreciate about Punta Bulata is that they are very transparent with the costs, so you can budget in advance. Just go to their website to see the costs.

The Verdict

If you are looking for a place to relax and rejuvenate, Punta Bulata should definitely be on your radar! In my experience, this is one of the most comforting and enjoyable getaways that I’ve been to. The resort staff was all very accommodating, which is a big bonus.

There are also plenty of things (free or with a fee) to do with friends, family, or even if you prefer to be alone. Enjoy the fine sand between your toes, get a tan under the glaring sun, listen to the calming sound of waves, soak your feet in the crystal-clear water that is far from the crowds, and finally, take as many IG-worthy pictures as you want. Trust me, it would be difficult to pick just one favorite spot!

Aside from that, you can also spend time at the resort’s wellness spa. If you want to do some sightseeing, sign up for a guided island-hopping tour. You can explore the lagoons, trek through the limestone forests, or have fun kayaking. Finally, level up the excitement with diving or snorkeling around Sipalay and Cuauyan diving sites. They offer diving courses and can rent you the appropriate equipment. Rates are posted on their website.
