Suzuki Jimny auto returns, however chances are you’ll be ready some time

Suzuki Australia has reopened orders for its Jimny three-door with the four-speed automatic, and customers can place an order immediately.

The company says due to “increased production opportunities in 2024”, it has been able to secure greater supply of Jimny models.

“Whilst back orders are still reaching as far as the second half of 2024, we have managed to secure incremental volume that will allow us to flick the switch back on for the auto transmission in Jimny,” said Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota.

“This ties in perfectly with the exciting launch of Jimny XL today to complete our total product offering of the Suzuki Jimny for Australia in 2024.”

Suzuki paused new orders in January and reopened them in September for the supply-constrained automatic off-roader, but all 500 available vehicles were snapped up in under five hours.

At the time, Suzuki said it also had over 1500 pre-orders for the new five-door Jimny XL.

Pricing is set to be announced imminently for the extended-length Jimny, which features the same naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and part-time four-wheel drive with selectable low range.

Like the three-door, it’ll be offered with a choice of five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions.

At 3985mm long, the Jimny five-door is 340mm longer than the regular three-door model, with all of this length added to the wheelbase which now spans 2590mm.

Ground clearance is a claimed 210mm.

It’s unclear what supply of the Jimny five-door will look like when it launches locally.

The three-door model initially was more popular as a manual, though the sales split shifted over time to the automatic – hence orders for the latter being paused in the face of rampant demand.

To the end of November, Suzuki has sold 4673 Jimnys in Australia. That means, despite supply issues, it’s still the brand’s second best-seller, behind only the Swift (6486 sales).
