Week of Exercises: December 2023

Hello friends and Happy Monday to you! I hope you all had a good weekend and aren’t feeling too frazzled in the midst of the holiday season right now. I am popping in this morning to share a recap of last week’s workouts. This time of year I practice serious flexibility with my workouts, understanding that sometimes they just cannot happen because I need my 5 a.m. mornings to squeeze in work since my kid-free school time is often taken over by school performances, more work-related to-dos, classroom parties, errands, etc.

Oddly enough, despite the fact that last week was jam-packed, I managed to fit in more workouts than usual into my routine which was a pleasant surprise. I’ve been averaging 3-4 workouts a week lately but last week included 5 workouts which will hopefully make this recap a little more interesting. My workouts last week included the usual strength training sessions (my fav) but I also incorporated a new-to-me treadmill workout and a 5K fun run into my week which felt great.

Week of Workouts: December 2023

I streamed a Caroline Girvan YouTube workout on Monday morning that targeted my biceps, triceps and shoulders. I adore Caroline’s YouTube channel for a myriad of reasons but mostly because her workouts are effective and you can listen to other things while you complete them because she provides visual countdowns and exercise previews. They’re perfect for days when I don’t want to plan out my own workouts and would prefer to do a workout while listening to an audiobook or my own music.

On Tuesday, I took myself through a basic leg strength workout. It was a throwback workout I shared on the blog in the past and one I circle back to often because sometimes the most simple workouts are the best.

  • Wednesday: 12-3-30 Treadmill Workout

I’ve seen the 12-3-30 viral treadmill workout everywhere but finally tried it myself on Wednesday. For anyone who may be unfamiliar with this workout, you set the incline of the treadmill to 12 (yes, 12!) and walk at a 3.0 mph pace for 30 minutes. I honestly loved the workout and didn’t find it too tedious because listened to my latest audiobook as I walked. I’ll absolutely do this one again!

No workout for me on Thursday!

  • Friday: Burn Boot Camp Full Body Workout

I had plans to meet up with a friend for a full-body workout at Burn Boot Camp on Friday which made Friday’s workout a little more fun! I always joke that full-body days at Burn feel like cardio days, too, because my heartrate always jumps up rather high thanks to so many compound exercises. Phew!

Saturday’s workout was my favorite because I got to spend it with my biggest kid! Ryan and I are doing our best to be more intentional about carving out pockets of one-on-one time with each of our boys and Saturday morning was reserved for a few hours of mother-son time with Chase! We signed up for a 5K fun run and left our house right around 8 a.m. for a 9 a.m. race-start. We added jingle bells to our shoes and agreed to only run as fast as the slowest person wanted to run. We made the whole race a game and had the best time! We took turns picking an object to run to and then we walked until we were ready to run again. It was a lot of sprinting and walking and running a 5K with Chase was basically like running intervals for the 38 minutes it took us to complete 3.1 miles. Chase said he would absolutely do the run with me again so I’m going to take that as a sign that he loved the 5K, too!

No workout for me on Sunday!

Question of the Day

What is your workout routine looking like these days? Trying anything new? Sticking with old favorites?
