Unlike other Caribbean destinations, Puerto Rico does not currently have traditional all-inclusive resorts, where unlimited food, beverages and activities are included in one set price.
However, several resorts in and around San Juan can provide an “all-inclusive” experience thanks to multiple on-site restaurants, bars and activities. In some cases, guests can purchase optional food and beverage packages or meal plans to create even more of an all-inclusive feel.

Fairmont El San Juan

One of Puerto Rico’s most iconic hotels, Caribe Hilton opened in 1949. It was Hilton’s first property outside the U.S. mainland and (reportedly) the birthplace of the pina colada.
There’s plenty of room to spread out here. The 652-key property sits on 17 beachfront acres with lush gardens, several pools and a semi-private beach. All guest rooms and suites feature a balcony, so guests can enjoy their stunning environs.
Caribe Hilton offers an almost all-inclusive experience thanks to its nine restaurants, on-site Zen Spa Oceano, a fitness center, a massive ocean-front pool complex and a secluded beach dotted with private cabanas.
The dining scene ranges from poolside Bagua Bar for light, casual fare and unbroken ocean views to the island’s Morton’s outpost for signature steaks and an extensive wine selection. Sample the evolution of the pina colada where it all started in 1954, Caribar. While you’re there, tuck into a plate of Puerto Rican dishes like guava pork or chicken chicharron.

Conveniently situated within a few minutes walk from the bustling Distrito T-Mobile, Puerto Rico’s premier entertainment complex, Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino is ideal for travelers who want to be in the middle of the action.
A $10 million glow-up of its 503 rooms and suites was completed in late 2020. A subtle palette of grays and blues replaced the hotel’s original orange and yellow hues that debuted with its 2009 opening. Spacious rooms hold modern furnishings and feature marble bathrooms and floor-to-ceiling windows for optimum natural light. The top floor also received a refresh and now features a lovely infinity pool that overlooks Old San Juan and San Juan Bay.

The property is also home to the island’s largest casino. It’s also open 24/7, so you can test your luck any time of the day or night.

All-inclusive resorts near San Juan
While not in the heart of San Juan, this property is close enough to the metro area to warrant a spot on our list.
The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, Puerto Rico

Best for: Those seeking a romantic escape at one of the Caribbean’s most coveted resorts.

Just about 22 miles from San Juan on Puerto Rico’s northeastern coast, Rio Grande is home to arguably one of the island’s best resorts. Outdoor lovers will appreciate St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort’s prime location between Espiritu Sando River State Reserve and El Yunque National Forest.
The resort’s airy and modern public spaces give way to a spectacular 483 oceanfront acres where a seemingly endless list of activities awaits guests. Among them are an inviting oceanside swimming pool, the sublime Iridium Spa, a Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed golf course and three highly touted restaurants. If your stay coincides with sea turtle hatching season (April through July), you’re in luck. The resort’s beach is a designated nesting site.
Choose from 139 luxurious rooms and suites outfitted with marble spa bathrooms with oversized soaking tubs, custom furniture and ridiculously comfortable pillow-top beds dressed in Frette linens.
Bahia Beach doesn’t currently offer specific food and beverage package add-ons. However, the $75 resort fee includes a bevy of offerings like welcome cocktails; Wi-Fi; use of bikes, kayaks and inflatable water toys; and driving range access.

Paradores
While the larger resorts and hotels in Puerto Rico may not fall in the “all-inclusive” bucket, the island’s selection of paradores does.
A network of locally-run inns and small hotels, the government’s Paradores Puertorriquenos program was established in 1973 by the Puerto Rico Tourism Board. Many paradores offer an all-inclusive stay (though on a smaller scale than you’d find at a resort) with a bar and restaurant featuring Puerto Rican cuisine.
All of the accommodations within the network are situated outside the San Juan area. Here are some worth considering.
Combate Beach Resort

Best for: Those who want to be near an incredible wildlife refuge.

Turtle Bay Inn
Lajas, Puerto Rico
Best for: Sustainably minded travelers.
Why stay here: You’ll have a no-frills but comfortable (and eco-friendly) stay at this sweet inn.

If sustainable travel is important to you, Turtle Bay Inn is a sure bet. Nearly 90% of the 13-room property’s energy has been solar-produced since 2011. Daily breakfast, free Wi-Fi and parking also come with your stay.

Best for: True beachfront relaxation, in addition to convenient inclusions in the nightly rate.
Why stay here: It’s the only true all-inclusive option in Puerto Rico.

A family of four properties under the Tropical Inns Puerto Rico banner offer “the only all-inclusive hotels in Puerto Rico,” with offers available at Hotel Lucia Beach, Palmas de Lucia, Costa del Mar and MaunaCaribe.
Rates for the All Inclusive Family package at Tropical Inns Puerto Rico start at $419 for a two-night stay, with all meals and nonalcoholic drinks included.
Best credit cards for booking hotels and resorts in Puerto Rico
There are over a dozen excellent travel rewards credit cards out there for hotel stays. The right one(s) for you will depend on if you’re loyal to a particular program or chain, whether you want premium perks, and if you value benefits like annual free nights, automatic elite status and lucrative earning rates.
Here are three great credit cards to use for booking stays across a variety of hotel chains and independent properties while still enjoying money-saving features and high-end benefits, though.
The Platinum Card® from American Express
Earning rates: This card earns 5 points per dollar on airfare purchased directly with the airlines or through the Amex Travel portal (on up to $500,000 of airfare purchases per calendar year). Plus, you’ll earn 5 points per dollar on prepaid hotels booked with Amex Travel. All other purchases earn 1 point per dollar. Remember, Amex points transfer to Hilton Honors at a 1:2 ratio, to Marriott Bonvoy at a 1:1 ratio and to Choice Privileges at a 1:1 rate, and there are sometimes transfer bonuses.

Benefits: Cardholders receive a $50 statement credit on hotel stays purchased through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal upon opening the card and each following cardmember anniversary. They also receive a 10% bonus based on their total spending during the account anniversary year at a rate of 1 point for each $10 spent. This card also has some of the best travel protections in the industry, including trip cancellation insurance, trip delay insurance and primary rental car coverage among other policies.
