Naomi Jane Voigt, a young prodigy, began her artistic journey at the age of four. She has performed in numerous off-Broadway and regional musical theater productions, including “Aussie Song,” where she played Young Teddy Trager. Naomi has also performed at iconic New York venues such as Feinstein’s 54 / Below, Green Room 42, Players Club NYC, the Sembrich Opera, and The Theater for a New City. Naomi is a prolific songwriter, known as the “piano poet,” whose powerful lyrics strike at the heart. She is a true virtuoso, playing multiple instruments.
Naomi Jane’s “Why Not” is a song that speaks to the possibility of finding true love, or at least to our capacity to imagine and visualize something so powerful. In her lyrics, she describes the universal experience of longing for a romantic partner and dreaming of a future together. The chorus poses the question “Why not me / why not you / why not now? and suggests that love is possible for anyone, even those who feel broken or bitter.
“‘Why Not’ is about a “perfect” love that is just “too good” to be true outside of the movies. An ideal or almost stereotypical love. Ever since I was little, my favorite movies of all time are rom-coms! They made me fall in love with love. This song tells the story of how girls (like me) still look for rom-com romance in real life even if it is impossible.”
Throughout the song Naomi references classic movie romances like “Grease” and “When Harry Met Sally,” showing a penchant for daydreaming something sweet and wonderful straight out of a movie. The bridge imagines a beautiful future with a partner, and the final chorus repeats the question “Why not me, why not you?” as an invitation to take a chance on love.
Emotionally speaking, Naomi’s voice is incredibly powerful in this song -and heart-breakingly beautiful too-, singing with such polish and maturity that you can’t help but feel like you’re listening to a timeless classic played at hundreds of weddings. Musically speaking the track is an outpouring of melody that is akin to being choked up with emotion.
In addition to her artistic talents, Naomi is a philanthropist who produced her inaugural Broadway Benefit to protect children from gun violence. Naomi’s latest performance is as Roxie Hart in “Chicago,” with shows scheduled for late spring 2024 in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.
