Sales of locally produced light vehicles in Pakistan are devastated in 2023 at -63.8% to just 82,218 units, according to local association PAMA. Issues with the importation of vehicle parts are partly to blame for this horrendous performance. Suzuki (-69%) falls even faster than the market and sees its share go down from 55.4% to 47.4%. Toyota (-63.5%) improves slightly to 24.3% share with Honda (-65.6%) down to 13%. Hyundai (-32%) soars from 5.7% of the market last year to 10.7% now. Sazgar Haval (+460%) ranks #5 for its first full year in market while Chery (-20.4%) is up to 0.7% albeit with H2 sales not reported. Note Changan and Kia do not share sales data with PAMA but are reported to be quite successful here.
Model-wise, the Suzuki Alto (-68.1%) easily remains the overall best-seller even if its market share drops from 29.2% to 25.7%. It peaked at a record 42.1% in October. The Toyota Corolla (-69.5%) is estimated to rank #2 above the Toyota Yaris (-69.5%) with the Honda Civic (-70.5%) taking the fourth spot. The Suzuki Swift (-65.5%) is up two ranks to #5, the Toyota Hilux (-48.1%) up five to #6 and the Hyundai Tucson up six to #7.
