The Colombia new vehicle market plunges -28.9% year-on-year to 186,826 units. This is the lowest annual result since 15 years ago in 2008, when 185,129 vehicles were sold. To blame are higher interest rates to slow inflation that has put the country on the brink of recession, and government uncertainty brought about by labor and pension reforms which have businessmen and investors on edge. Renault (-46.6%) completely implodes but manages to hold onto the top spot in the brands charts, however its advantage over #2 Toyota (+1.1%) has thawed dramatically to just 477 units. Toyota was the #1 brand in May, June and from October to December and overtakes Chevrolet (-42%) to #2. Mazda (-1.5%) contains its fall and climbs up two spots to #4 whereas Kia (-17.4%) stays at #4. Ford (+4.5%) and Nissan (-6.3%) markedly improve their market share in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Subaru (+45.2%), Ram (+19.3%) and Volvo (+2.1%) manage impressive gains.
Over in the models aisle, the Renault Duster (-34.3%) falls faster than the market but takes advantage of an even worse year by 2022’s #1 the Suzuki Swift (-52.7%) to snap the pole position for the first time. The Toyota Corolla Cross (+7.7%) surges 10 spots on 2022 to land in 2nd place, distancing the Mazda CX-30 (-12.6%) up six spots to #3. The Chevrolet Onix (-43.3%) drops one rank to #4. The Kia Picanto (-27.7%) is up one to #6 and topped the charts in November. Meanwhile the Mazda2 (+7.7%) soars 8 spots to #8 but the Renault Kwid (-42.5%) implodes to #9 with the Chevrolet Tracker (-24%) rounding out the Top 10. The Toyota SW4 Fortuner (-3.5%) is up 7 ranks to #11 and ranked #1 in December.
