Virgin Atlantic, China Japanese Develop Codeshare

Virgin Atlantic and China Eastern airlines have a new codeshare agreement, effective today, the carriers announced Tuesday.

The first phase of the agreement allows customers booking through Virgin Atlantic to connect from the airline’s Heathrow-Shanghai service to other destinations in China on a single ticket, including Chengdu, Changsha, Qingdao, Shenzhen and Xi’an.

The expanded codeshare also allows Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club members to earn Virgin Points and Tier Points on codeshare flights with China Eastern. The option to spend Virgin Points “is expected to follow shortly.”

China Eastern is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, which Virgin Atlantic joined in 2023. Since November, the two carriers have been co-located at Shanghai Pudong Terminal One, where Virgin Atlantic Gold and Silver Flying Club members along with China Eastern Miles members have access to SkyPriority services, including priority check-in, boarding and extra baggage, according to Virgin.
