9 Wonderful Methods to Upcycle Plastic Milk Jugs

Many of us go through a lot of milk and end up with lots of plastic milk jugs. If you’re wondering what else you can do with plastic milk jugs besides depositing them in your recycling container, then upcycle them with these creative uses. In this post, I share some astonishing eco-friendly ideas that you may want to keep handy that can save you some money just by repurposing them.

Before you know it, it will be time to start seedlings to plant in your garden. If you don’t want to spend extra money on trays or containers, cut off the tops of some empty gallon milk jugs instead.

You can also make a small watering can out of a plastic gallon container. There are two ways that you can accomplish this. The first is using the cap and poking some holes in it to serve as the sprinkler once filling the jug with water and securing it. The second method is to buy an inexpensive sprinkle cap to use in the same way.

Some people protect their plants before a frost cutting plastic milk jugs to cover them with it. However, this is not the best thing to do. The reason is because the plants can’t breathe as much as they should. A better choice is a cloth cover or even an empty glass jar.

If you have a cat, you can make a scoop by cutting off to dig into fresh cat litter.

Speaking of clumping litter, you may want to switch the type of litter you buy to pine pellets. The reason is clumping litter contains sodium bentonite, which is dangerous for cats to ingest since it swells up after they lick their paws like cement. As a result, this ingredient can cause blockages in their intestines with to kidney and respiratory problems. It also can cause toxic hypokalemia hypochromic anemia in cats with lethargy and muscle weakness. This happened to my cat with a urinary blockage. Unfortunately, I found out too late about the hazards of clumping litter.

Another thing that you can do if you don’t like keeping a big bag of cat litter around is using the plastic milk jugs for litter containers and pouring what you need out of those. They take less room and line up neatly wherever you store them than an awkward, large bag of litter.

Exercising with weights can help speed up results when doing your routine. Instead of buying weights, you can fill two plastic gallon milk jugs to upcycle as a substitute. Their handles do give you that great gripping power as the weight puts more tension on the muscles you’re utilizing.

A convenient way to salt your sidewalk or driveway is filling a plastic milk jug with salt for dumping where needed. You can have your jugs loaded and ready to go after hearing the weather report!

Kids can also be entertained by the game that you can construct. Cut the gallon milk jug across and turn it into the receptacle for tossing a ball into out in the yard.

Warm weather and picnics go hand in hand. Fill an empty gallon milk jug with water and freeze it. This makes the perfect ice pack to stick inside a large cooler before packing the food. For a smaller cooler, you always substitute with a half gallon or quart plastic milk jug.

A handy dustpan can be made just by cutting off the handle and enough of the side to form a flat edge. The other part is ideal for picking up the collected dirt is another of these plastic milk jugs projects to keep in mind.
