Amadeus Provides Bill Automation with Voxel Acquisition

Amadeus has acquired electronic invoice and payment solution provider Voxel, which the travel technology company said will help it further end-to-end automation of the business travel experience for corporate customers.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Barcelona-based Voxel operates the Bavel platform, which orchestrates the payment process for more than 50,000 hotels and 1,000 travel companies and tour operators as well as more than 3,000 restaurants and franchises, and the platform handles more than 100 million transactions each year, according to Amadeus. With the platform added to Amadeus’ offerings, it will be able to offer a broader range of payment services and invoice automation for travel management companies, hotels, hotel aggregators and tour operators, the company said.

The offering will complement Amadeus’ Outpayce payments business, which it launched last year, according to Amadeus.

“Payments are present at every stage of the travel experience,” Amadeus Travel president Decius Valmorbida said in a statement. “To make the experience of travel better, it’s crucial we ensure smooth, integrated and even invisible payments.”

As part of the acquisition, which has been completed, more than 200 Voxel employees have joined Amadeus.
