Daiwa has brought out 10 new rods for striper anglers in the northeast US with the new Blackline Surf and Trolling/Mojo striper series rods. Officially introduced at the Saltwater Fishing Expo in Edison, N.J. on March 15-17, 2024. The 10 new rods consist of four Blackline Trolling rods and six Blackline Surf spinning rods designed with input from leading surf anglers from the East Coast.
The Blackline surf rods are two-piece rods made using DAIWA’s X45 bias carbon technology construction process along with SVF (Super High Volume Fiber) Nanoplus Technology to make for strong but light rod blank that can handle a variety of high-stress situations. The ferrule of the rods uses DAIWA’s unique V-Joint Technology so the ferrules bend along with the rest of the blank for uniform flex and better castability, making the rods feel like a single-piece construction rod.
The Blackline Trolling/Mojo rods are single-piece trolling rods that come in two lengths of either 6’6” and 7’ both coming in medium-heavy (rated for 30- to 80-pound braid) and heavy power (for 50- to 100-pound braid). These rods are built with mojo rig set-ups, plug pulling, live-lining bunker and eels in mind. All four of these trolling rods feature a high-quality graphite construction blank, a sturdy FUJI reel seat, and heavy-duty guides to hold up to the varying conditions faced when trolling for striper.
