Athirappily Falls is a marvelous cascade of frothy waters that make its way from the Anamudi mountains of the Western Ghats in Kerala. Often called the “Niagara of India”, it had served as the location of the mighty waterfall you see in the superhit Indian film Baahubali! This 25-meter tall waterfall stands at an elevation of 1,000 feet above sea level and is the largest waterfall in Kerala.

Athirappilly Falls stands as the ever-shining pride of Kerala and has a vertical drop almost similar to that of the Niagara Falls of the US. This 100-meter-wide waterfall is one of the largest waterfalls in India and cascades in 4 drops from a massive height.

If you are coming via train, the closest railway stations are Chalakudy Railway Station (CKI) and Angamaly Railway Station (AFK). However, very few trains stop here and you can also get down at Aluva (AWY) or Ernakulam (ERS) Railway Stations respectively, which are major stations.

However you are coming by road, you can get to Athirappilly Falls by the route through Chalakudy which is helpful for travelers coming in from the southern side of Kerala. The route starts from Chalakudy junction and passes through Kanjirappally connecting Athirappilly Falls.

There is also an alternate route through Valparai which heads steeply through tea estates to Valparai. The road goes through the forest right after Malakiparai and Vazhachal forest division and finally reaches Athirappilly Falls.

1. Watch Athirappally Waterfalls from the bottom

The waterfall itself is the most popular one among national and international tourists. There is a 250-meter path that you can trek downhill to get to the bottom of Athirappally Waterfalls. To get a view of the waterfall, one needs to get down from the top of the waterfall for about 100 meters. There are guards with whistles at the bottom for the protection of travelers.
