BA Selects Amadeus for Provide-and-Order Technique

British Airways will use the new Amadeus Nevio product to deliver the carrier’s Offers and Orders strategic goals, the companies announced Tuesday.

The carrier last year began distributing through Amadeus its New Distribution Capability offers in certain markets, but NDC is the “critical enabler” for the larger end-game goal of dynamic Offers and Orders, which will allow airlines to distribute relevant offers that are specifically tailored to travelers’ needs, according to Amadeus.

“The industry’s move towards Orders and Offers, the progress of new standards (NDC, One Order, One ID) and recent technological advances together mean that airlines can deliver on the full potential for modern airline retailing to travelers, at scale, and extract all its benefits,” Amadeus wrote in an email.

The technology company added that it remains fully committed to “deployment of NDC across the travel ecosystem, and the adoption of these new standards will help to make the most of the potential that NDC can deliver.”

Nevio is a portfolio of modular solutions built on open and AI technology and around the International Air Transport Association Offer and Order principals. British Airways and Amadeus will collaborate on the design of Nevio’s Offer and Order capabilities, according to Amadeus. Nevio’s Offer suite will enable more dynamic products and bundles, while dynamic offer pricing will be rolled out to enable “real-time contextual pricing options based on marketplace dynamics.” A suite of digital experience tools will support a booking experience and streamline servicing, including disruption, on any device or channel.

Nevio will be “implemented gradually” for British Airways starting next year, according to Amadeus. “Over time, British Airways will migrate away from legacy artifacts such as PNRs and e-tickets to One Order-based standards provided by Nevio,” Amadeus said.

British Airways has a “small fee” for NDC bookings made through the Amadeus Travel Platform, according to coverage at the time its NDC offers on Amadeus were rolled out. But when asked what the fee structure might be for these future offers, Amadeus said “we do not comment on our commercial strategy externally,” and British Airways did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
