The Global Business Travel Association along with carriers
including American Airlines, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue and
manufacturer Boeing are among the more than forty companies and organizations
that have joined to form a new sustainable aviation fuel alliance, the group
announced Monday.
Dubbed the SAF Coalition, the organization includes airlines
and aircraft operators, agricultural enterprises, aircraft and aircraft
equipment manufacturers, airports, technology developers, labor unions and
biofuel producers.
The group’s goals are to “rapidly scale investment in
the SAF sector and advocate for the incentives and policies necessary to
promote U.S. economic competitiveness in the emerging SAF marketplace,”
according to the coalition.
“Sustainable aviation fuel is critical for the future
of both our industry and our planet,” GBTA CEO Suzanne Neufang said in an
emailed statement. “Joining forces with organizations like the newly
formed SAF Coalition will be instrumental in how we can collectively support
scaling up production in the U.S. and ensuring that progress continues in
making more SAF available.”
The SAF coalition formed nearly six
months after the Americans for Clean Aviation Fuels group made its founding
announcement. That first coalition includes Delta Air Lines, Airbus, ExxonMobil
and other stakeholder organizations.
