The Luxurious Assortment by Marriott opens its first resort in Germany

There’s another luxury player in Munich’s hotel scene — and Marriott Bonvoy members have a particular reason to celebrate.

The Luxury Collection, part of Marriott Bonvoy, opened its first hotel in Germany this week: Koenigshof, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Munich. The property in Munich’s Stachus Square features 106 guest rooms and suites. Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos and the architecture and design firm Landau + Kindelbacher are behind Koenigshof’s contemporary design throughout the historic property.

“The opening of Koenigshof, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Munich signifies a significant milestone for the brand as it will be The Luxury Collection’s foray into Germany – a vibrant and enticing destination for luxury travel,” Philipp Weghmann, vice president and global brand leader of The Luxury Collection, said in a statement. “This property marks a fitting entrance, embodying the tapestry of the country’s cosmopolitan culture. By introducing the brand’s unique ethos and enriching experiences to the exceptional city of Munich, this property is poised to offer guests an unparalleled blend of luxury hospitality and local flair.”

Art will be a central theme of the hotel, and guests and visitors can expect to see a wide-ranging collection of Bavarian and international art from artists like Joseph Beuys, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and David John Flynn.

Guest rooms and suites will feature a mix of dark wood-paneled walls, city views and expansive windows. Local touches like welcome cards illustrated by Munich designer Alexandra von Frankenberg, a custom Koenigshof fragrance and a bespoke “Munich Serenity” tea made exclusively for the hotel in collaboration with Samova Tea will add further Munich authenticity to the stay. On the amenity front, Koenigshof guests will be treated to Dyson Supersonic hair dryers, Nespresso machines, Bose speakers and Byredo toiletries during their stay.

But the ultimate splurge is Koenigshof’s 2,690-square-foot, two-story Presidential Suite. The sprawling accommodation, which has bragging rights as the largest suite in Munich, includes a private sauna, a pool and a spa — after all, who wants to socialize during a day of pampering and relaxation?

The Luxury Collection addition to the Munich hotel scene comes amid a bit of a luxury liftoff for the German city in recent years: Rosewood Munich opened late last year, and the Mandarin Oriental, Munich — long seen as the city’s ultra-luxury leader — completed an extensive renovation toward the end of 2020.

“Munich is one of Europe’s most dynamic and artistic cities, steeped in history, making it a natural fit for The Luxury Collection – a brand renowned for celebrating authenticity and delivering Indigenous hotel experiences,” Helen Leighton, vice president of luxury brands for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Marriott International, said in a statement.

Koenigshof is as much a draw for its restaurants as its luxe accommodations. Greta Oto on the hotel’s ninth floor features panoramic views of the city and Latin American cuisine by Peruvian chef Michael Cánepa. The Green is a lounge offering local Bavarian delicacies, while The Gold lounge is more of a residential-style lounge on the third floor. The latter has an outdoor terrace that’s fit for kicking back with a Koenigshof Bellini (a hotel signature made with mountain peach puree, lemon oil produced from Amalfi Coast lemon and Ruinart Brut Champagne) and a good book.

“Located in the heart of the city, Koenigshof, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Munich opens with contemporary design, impeccable service, and an array of epicurean experiences,” Leighton added. We are thrilled to bring the next level of luxury hospitality to Germany and look forward to welcoming global explorers as they unlock this enchanting destination.”
