AllOutdoor Overview: Tristar Cobra III Tremendous Compact Subject Pump 410 GA

In the world of shotguns, the .410 bore has long been associated with youth shooters and small-game hunting. The TriStar Cobra III Super Compact 410 takes this concept a step further, offering a nimble, lightweight pump-action shotgun that’s suitable for shooters of all ages and statures. Let’s dive into what makes this compact powerhouse stand out in the crowded shotgun market!

The Cobra III Super Compact 410 boasts an impressive array of features packed into its diminutive frame. With an 18.5″ barrel and weighing just 4.3 lbs, it’s one of the most maneuverable (without going to something like a Shockwave) shotguns in its class. The 13″ length of pull makes it comfortable for smaller-framed shooters without feeling cramped for adults.

Pump action shotgun. To open bolt, hold release button and pull down on forearm. This will open the action, to close, simply push forearm forward. After the trigger is pulled, the same action will need to be repeated to eject spent shell and load another from the magazine.

The primary safety is located on the backside of the trigger guard. When engaged, the safety is designed to block the trigger, hammer lever and the hammer which makes the firing mechanism immobile.

Tubular magazine, bottom loading. Shot plug included and comes installed. Shot plug easily removable by unscrewing the magazine cap. Simply pull plug out and replace magazine cap.”

Range Time: Tristar Cobra III Super Compact 410

During testing, the Cobra III Super Compact 410 proved to be a joy to shoot. The lack of recoil makes it an excellent choice for new or young shooters, allowing them to focus on form and accuracy without the distraction of heavy kickback. The shotgun handled clay pigeons with ease, reaching impressive distances thanks to its interchangeable chokes – a feature not commonly found in .410 shotguns.

Assembly is straightforward, a boon for those new to firearms or anyone who appreciates simplicity in the field. The Cobra III’s lightweight design doesn’t just make it easy to carry; it also translates to quick handling when flushing game birds or transitioning between clay targets.

While .410 shotguns are often pigeonholed as beginner or small-game firearms, the Cobra III’s versatility challenges this notion. Its ability to handle a variety of loads, from light target shells to heavier field ammunition, makes it a viable option for diverse shooting scenarios. The included set of three chokes allows shooters to fine-tune their patterns for different distances and applications, be it skeet shooting or hunting rabbits in thick cover. The wood finish, while limiting color options, lends a classic aesthetic that many shooters still prefer over synthetic stocks.

However, no firearm is without its drawbacks. The action can feel stiff at times, which may require some getting used to. This is something I would give the benefit of the doubt however since it is a new gun and I only put around 50-70 rounds through it. Additionally, the unconventional action release might require adjustment for experienced shooters accustomed to other designs. It’s worth noting that the super compact model is only available in a wood finish, which may not suit all preferences. Lastly, while not a fault of the gun itself, .410 ammunition can be expensive, a factor to consider for budget-conscious shooters.

Final Thoughts: Tristar Cobra III Super Compact 410

The TriStar Cobra III Super Compact 410 fills a unique niche in the shotgun market. It’s not just a “youth” shotgun, but a versatile firearm suitable for shooters of various ages and sizes who appreciate a lightweight, manageable shotgun. Its quality construction, including chrome-lined barrel and chamber, coupled with the inclusion of interchangeable chokes, makes it a value-packed option for both new and experienced shooters. While it may have a few quirks, such as the stiff action and unique release, these are minor considerations given its overall performance and features. Whether you’re introducing a new shooter to the sport, looking for a lightweight option for small game hunting, or simply want a fun, low-recoil shotgun for clay shooting, the Cobra III Super Compact 410 is worth a closer look.
