Installation
Removing the factory shift knob is simple, all it requires is unscrewing in a counterclockwise rotation. Then, pull up the old one and remove it from your truck.
To install the new knob, screw it on in a clockwise rotation until it becomes tight, that’s it!
Since the thread inside is aluminum, you don’t have to worry about stripping the threads like the factory knob with a plastic insert. Once you tighten it down, it won’t unthread itself either.
Customizable Caps
All their shift knobs have a built-in magnet at the top that is designed to hold the interchangeable caps in place. There is a selection of caps you can choose from to add a unique touch to your interior.
Pictured above are just some of the designs offered. You’ll find anything from the heritage TEQ to TRD for an OEM+ look. TrailMade is always adding new designs and has done some custom cap runs as well.
Final Thoughts
These shift knobs have a simple design but add a refined touch to your truck’s interior. I think the guys at TrailMade knocked it out of the park with this subtle offering that looks great in any interior. I opted for gunmetal gray (pictured above) but they also come in black and raw (machined).
The design isn’t just for looks but also the feel for the driver. I could immediately feel how smooth it felt compared to the plastic factory knob. It’s hard to describe, it just feels way nicer to use. They also have a nice weight to them.
Being able to customize your shifter is a small detail, but also the first time I’ve ever seen this done. Having the ability to swap out caps without any tools or extra parts and change up the look is a clutch feature. If you’re in the market for an aftermarket knob, definitely check these out!
