If you’re looking for hardy travel gear with prodigious protection, Victorinox now offers an extra incentive. Last week, the brand famous for the original Swiss Army Knife announced a lifetime warranty on travel gear that previously applied only to the brand’s multitools and kitchen knives.

This expansion now applies to the brand’s luggage, business cases, duffel bags, totes, and backpacks. Previously, the travel gear came with an 11-year warranty, with the “total protection program” only applying to the first year of ownership.

The lifetime warranty now includes coverage for “anything that deems the product not functional, including manufacturing defects, normal wear and tear, airline handling and transit damage,” the brand said.

It’s available on all travel gear products purchased from Victorinox or a retailer in the United States or Canada after October 1. Purchases made before that date will receive only the previous 11-year warranty. For products purchased after, there’s no proof of purchase required for the warranty, which has “a simple and easy claims process,” according to Victorinox.

“This new warranty ensures that our customers can travel with peace of mind, knowing that their luggage is prepared to go the distance,” said Ulrich Wohn, president of Victorinox North America.

Not many brands offer a lifetime warranty for anything — much less luggage meant to travel through the world’s airports.

New York City-based travel brand Briggs & Riley also offers a “lifetime guarantee,” meaning the brand “will cover the repair of all functional aspects of your Briggs & Riley bag for life.” Mystery Ranch, on the other hand, makes some tough luggage, but the brand’s guarantee only covers “defects in materials and craftsmanship for the practical lifetime of the product.” Damage from “normal wear and tear” can be repaired “for a reasonable charge,” according to the brand’s warranty policy.

For an example of Victorinox luggage with the new lifetime warranty, check out the Airox Advanced collection, released earlier this year.

Victorinox said it designed the line of suitcases with a lightweight, minimalist design. Available in three colors, these cases have a matte finish and the brand’s classic rib design.

The Swiss-made cases also come with an externally mounted dual-telescopic handle and the Butterfly Opening System with dual divider walls, which supposedly allows for more organized packing.

The collection’s antimicrobial lining includes silver mesh and red accents, while a Swiss Army Knife-scale on the back panel offers a personalization option. Visit the Victorinox website to learn more about its travel gear.
