Airline-Resort Loyalty Partnerships to Increase Choices

In another sign that loyalty has become increasingly important for travel brands, two pairs of airlines and hotel companies on Tuesday announced separate enhancements to their loyalty partnerships.

Beginning in January, members who link their American Airlines AAdvantage rewards program and Hyatt Hotels Corp.’s World of Hyatt program will be able to select awards from each other’s programs. Examples include redeeming miles for Hyatt free night awards or having American seat coupons or premium status available to World of Hyatt members.

With the expansion of the relationship between the two companies, the ability for linked status members to earn AAdvantage miles and World of Hyatt bonus points at the same time will end Dec. 31, 2024, according to Hyatt.

In addition, Marriott Bonvoy and Aeroplan, Air Canada’s loyalty program, now are offering status matches and two-way currency transfers. Aeroplan 50K, 70K and Super Elite members will receive complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status, while Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite and Ambassador Elite members will receive complimentary Aeroplan 25K status, according to Air Canada.

Members must link their Marriott Bonvoy and Aeroplan accounts to receive the benefits. Further, Aeroplan Elite status members now can convert their Aeroplan points into Marriott Bonvoy points at a one-to-one ratio. Members already can convert their Marriott Bonvoy points into Aeroplan points at a three-to-one ratio, according to Air Canada.
