DOT Tentatively Approves 5 Open DCA Slots

The U.S. Department of Transportation has tentatively approved two slot exemptions at Reagan Washington National Airport to each of five carriers to operate new nonstop roundtrip service, the agency announced Wednesday.

The five carriers and new routes, pending final approval, include Alaska Airlines for service to San Diego, Calif.; American Airlines for service to San Antonio, Texas; Delta Air Lines for service to Seattle; Southwest Airlines for service to Las Vegas; and United Airlines for service to San Francisco.

The five carriers each had applied for the slots this summer after the passage in May of the U.S. Federation Aviation Administration reauthorization bill included five new slots for Washington Reagan.

Carriers that applied for the open slots but were denied included Frontier Airlines, JetBlue and Spirit Airlines, each with requests for flights to San Juan, P.R.
