SBTi Approves Amadeus Emissions Targets

The Science Based Targets initiative has validated Amadeus’ plans to lower its carbon emissions, the travel technology company announced Monday.

Amadeus has vowed to reduce 42 percent of its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 from a 2022 base year, and to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 25 percent in the same timeframe. Additionally, the company has pledged to increase “active annual sourcing of renewable electricity from 63 percent in 2022 to 100 percent by 2030” and to ensure by 2028 that a quarter of its suppliers themselves have SBTi-validated emissions targets

Longer-term, Amadeus committed to reduce by 2050 Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90 percent from a 2022 base.

The SBTi is an initiative of several climate-related groups that assists companies in setting science-based greenhouse gas emissions-reduction targets to achieve net-zero goals. The group requires companies to submit plans to achieve such goals within 24 months of a net-zero commitment. Validation is no certainty; earlier this year, the group removed the commitments of scores of companies for failure to develop plans for sufficient mitigation

Marriott International and American Express Global Business Travel secured similar validation earlier this year.
