LADYGUNN – Obed Padilla Is Redefining the Latino Musical Panorama With His New EP “They Advised Us There’s 2 Kinds of Mexicans”

Carving out a unique space in Latinx music, Obed Padilla blends his Mexican and Costa Rican roots with various influences spanning genres and generations. The Chicano singer-songwriter from Oceanside is redefining the boundaries of Latinx alternative music, bringing an innovative sound that’s fresh and genre-defying. Drawing inspiration from icons like the Beach Boys and Kanye West, Padilla’s work promises to captivate listeners who crave authenticity and creativity, pushing Latinx music into exciting, uncharted territory.

Padilla made a powerful entry into the music scene last summer, catching attention with a series of viral, social-media-only releases, including “Brown & Down Freestyle,” “Chicano Poetry,” “A Love Story,” and “Meek Shall Inherit The Earth,” which collectively amassed over 5 million views. This viral success propelled him into the spotlight, leading to a coveted spot on the Gary Vee Podcast, an invitation to Austin City Limits, and collaborative opportunities with renowned songwriters and producers.

Now, with his latest EP, They Told Us There’s 2 Types of Mexicans, Padilla is taking his artistry to new heights. This carefully curated collection showcases his talent for crafting quality music over quantity. Each of the three tracks offers a distinct sonic experience, highlighting Padilla’s fusion of Latin hip-hop, indie rock, and psychedelic influences.

The EP’s lead single, “Yoga & Cocaine,” sets the tone with its powerful blend of Latin rhythms, hip-hop beats, and soulful vocals. With edgy lyrics and a hypnotic production, this song will surely mesmerize listeners. “Cigarettes And Lipstick” takes a more indie rock direction, reminiscent of Gorillaz’s eclectic sound, while still maintaining Padilla’s Latin roots. The EP concludes with “The Moon,” a guitar-driven track that showcases his Kanye West and John Mayer inspirations.

They Told Us There’s 2 Types of Mexicans” will leave a deep mark within the scene, offering a raw and authentic experience. Each track captures a different facet of identity and cultural pride, inviting listeners to reflect on their own stories. The music’s emotional depth makes it not just an auditory experience but something you won’t get easily anywhere else. Obed Padilla undoubtedly should be on everyone’s radar.
