Icelandair, ITA to Begin Codeshare Flights

Icelandair and Italian flag carrier ITA Airways have signed a codeshare agreement, initially on flights through Rome with plans for further expansion, the carriers announced.

The codeshare connects Icelandair’s serve between Reykjavik and Rome to “numerous” ITA destinations, including Bologna, Florence, Venice and Naples. Icelandair also is increasing winter service to Rome to four times weekly to boost the partnership.

The carriers said they plan to “further expand the partnership and add codeshare via many of the airlines’ mutual European gateways.” Icelandair offers daily service to Milan in the summer, when its Rome service also increases to daily.

Codeshare flights between the two carriers—in which passengers can travel on a single ticket and have luggage checked though to their final destination—will begin Jan. 20, with the flights available for sale immediately, the carriers said.

ITA, currently being acquired by Lufthansa Group, has been Italy’s flag carrier since the closure of Alitalia in 2021.
