Upper upscale hotel group Club Quarters has made available through its 18-property portfolio a digital room key that can be stored in a mobile wallet without the use of an app, the company announced Wednesday.
Guests at check-in can download their room key from a code included with their reservation confirmation email and store it in their digital wallets on Apple or Android devices, according to Club Quarters.
“We truly believe that soon digital keys will displace key cards, which have been shown to be less secure,” Club Quarters CEO John Paul Nichols said in a statement.
Club Quarters uses a cloud-based system from hotel security tech firm Vingcard to generate encrypted room keys compatible with guests’ wallets.
The mobile wallet room keys also will unlock on-property fitness centers, according to Club Quarters.
Traditional key cards also remain available at Club Quarters properties. The company claimed it is the first hotel company to roll out this type of offering throughout its portfolio. Club Quarters operates 18 hotels in the U.S. and United Kingdom.
