The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, the brand’s first droptop electric grand tourer, has been spied testing.
It’s expected to use the same powertrain as its coupe sibling, the GranTurismo Folgore, and may debut this year as a 2024 model.
The electric grand tourer has three electric motors making a total of 560kW of power — or 610kW on overboost — and 1350Nm of torque.
Its T-bone shaped battery pack has a 92.5kWh capacity (83kWh useable), and its 800V system can handle charging speeds of 270kW, said to add 100km of range in five minutes.
With an all-wheel drive system and torque vectoring, the Folgore coupe is capable of 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds, and hitting a top speed of 320km/h.
We’d expect the GranCabrio Folgore to be ever so slightly slower, in classic convertible fashion, as extra weight is expected to be added to maintain the body’s rigidity.
Along with an electric powertrain the Folgore brings aerodynamic wheels and naturally goes without the exhaust pipes of the petrol-powered GranCabrio, also spied recently.
In an attempt to keep the full aural experience however, the vehicle is expected to feature internal and external speakers that will play synthesised engine sounds.
The GranCabrio line up is expected to mirror its coupe-counterpart the GranTurismo and feature twin-turbocharged V6-powered Modena and Trofeo variants.
Maserati has plans to go all electric by 2030, and has already revealed electric versions of the GranTurismo and Grecale. All Maserati EVs wear the Folgore name, Italian for “lightning”.
Those not ready to go full electric can choose from a range of mild-hybrids, available across the Grecale, Levante and Ghibli lines.
