It’s no secret that Hamilton County is a place to experience the arts, in all its forms. In fact, Carmel, Fishers and Noblesville’s downtown areas have been named state-designated arts districts by the Indiana Arts Commission. Get to know the artists that help create such a dynamic place for the arts.
Boxx The Artist
Boxx’s work synthesizes cultural art through paintings, digital art, and public art installations. She is an Indianapolis based full-time visual artist practicing for approximately five years professionally, from Gary, Indiana. Her visual artwork uses acrylic, digital, mixed mediums, public installations, and motion film to capture different elements of life from the African diaspora celebrating the beauty in Blackness.
She installed a mural for the Habitat Exhibition at the Conner Prairie Museum made available by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition. Boxx has also had the opportunity to serve as the Maker-In-Resident for the Ignite Studio at the East Hamilton Public Library in Fishers. She is recognized as a Certified Minority/ Woman Owned Business in the State of Indiana.
Shelley Feeney
Shelley captures the raw beauty of natural objects and landscapes from different perspectives. She exaggerates the use of color, light and texture through the layering of paint. These bold patterns and lines created by the impasto of the paint creates a visual movement that easily take you in and out of her paintings.
She also received a FFAC grant this year, and will be screen printing manhole covers and various textures throughout the Nickel Plate District.
Shaunt’e Lewis

- Favorite art & culture event: An annual sneaker design competition that I put on alongside 31SVN Street Dance Academy with the help of a grant from the Fishers Arts and Culture Commission. This year it will be held on June 10.
Shaunt’e is a self-taught visual artist and illustrator. Her work centers around self-identity, black culture and femininity. She explores the relationship between feminism, black culture and the arts while incorporating bright colors and clean lines that uplift and inspire.
In celebration of Black History Month, Shaunt’e was one of three chosen artists to have products with my artwork featured in all 250 Meijer stores across the Midwest.
Joanne Roeder
Joanne finds such joy and gratification in her passion for art. She always wants to take advantage of any opportunity to learn and experience the pleasures of creating beautiful things.
Painting is an exciting life to be in, But the collecting public needs to remember that artists are trying to make a living, too.
Scott Shoemaker

Scott works for the Indianapolis Zoo, and has a love of animals and the outdoors. He enjoys painting for many public art projects including creating a mini golf hole both years for the Indianapolis Museum of Art. He really enjoyed working on 25 cedar and pine birds for Conner Prairie’s Smithsonian Habitat exhibit. He spent a few weeks collecting driftwood from White River for the project.
Many years ago Scott worked for Suntex/Sunshine Promotions and created shirt designs for 50 universities and colleges and many concert posters. He also designed the logo for Deer Creek Music Center.
