The updates coming to Tesla’s largest vehicles

Tesla has given its long-running Model S and Model X some updates for 2023.

Revealed on Twitter, the updates for the Model S and X include a revised glass roof, a new paint colour and the return of a traditional steering wheel.

The carmaker published a video featuring the US$3000 (AU$4,562.70) Ultra Red exterior finish.

The company says the standard glass roof now weighs less and lets in five times more light, but with the same level of UV protection.

It also claims the glass roof improves the vehicles’ handling as it helps lower the centre of gravity relative to the old roof.

Customers turned off by the controversial yoke can once again order their Model S or Model X with a round steering wheel.

Model S and X Plaid variants receive improved brake pads with higher thermal capacity for better braking performance.

Tesla recently announced significant price reductions of up to 9.1 per cent for its Model S and Model X for the US market, saying customers are getting “more features for less.”

The company has been experimenting with price cuts and increases over the last few months.

“We found that even small changes in the price have a big effect on demand, very big, ” said Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

The Model S and Model X remain off-sale in Australia. Though Tesla claimed in 2021 they would return in 2022, this didn’t come to pass.

It’s unclear when the carmaker will reopen orders. The company removed pricing from its local website in March 2022, though you can still put down a deposit on one.
