Peugeot Australia costs its most reasonably priced plug-in hybrid but

Peugeot Citroen Australia has revealed pricing for the 308 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) hatchback four months after the launch of the core range.

The 2023 Peugeot 308 GT Sport PHEV hatch is priced from $64,990 before on-road costs, which is $14,500 more expensive than the 308 GT Premium wagon and $16,000 more than the 308 GT Premium hatch.

It’s currently the cheapest PHEV Peugeot offers locally, undercutting both the 508 liftback and 3008 PHEV models, and battles the Cupra Leon VZe.

Customers can order a 308 GT Sport PHEV now, and Peugeot advises customers to contact their dealer about expected arrival times.

Power in the 308 GT Sport PHEV hatch comes from a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 132kW of power and 250Nm of torque, with an 81kW/320Nm electric motor incorporated in the eight-speed automatic transmission, and a 12.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Total system outputs are 165kW of power and 360Nm of torque.

Peugeot claims the 308 GT Sport PHEV hatch has an electric range of 60km according to WLTP testing, whereas claimed combined cycle fuel consumption is 1.3L/100km. It has a 40-litre fuel tank.

The car can be charged at up to 3.7kW using its Type 2 socket. Peugeot claims that depending on the charging type, a full charge will take approximately 3.5 to 5.5 hours.

Boot space in the 308 GT Sport PHEV hatch is 361 litres with the second row in place and 1271L with the second row folded, which is around 50 litres less respectively than the regular 308 hatch.

The Peugeot 308 GT Sport PHEV hatch is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, like all Peugeot models. The high-voltage battery is also backed by an eight-year, 160,000km warranty with a 70 per cent load capacity.

The plug-in hybrid hatch also comes with five years of roadside assistance and five years of capped-price servicing.

Logbook servicing is required every 12 months or 20,000km, which is more than the 12 months or 15,000km intervals for the petrol range.

Over the first five years of services in the 308 GT Sport PHEV you’ll pay $2960, which is $291 more expensive than the petrol models.

Peugeot Australia also offers pre-paid service plans for the 308 GT Sport PHEV, which cost $1200 for three years and $2000 for five years. This is $100 more than on petrol 308 models.

On the safety front the Peugeot 308 GT Sport PHEV hatch comes with the following safety features:

  • Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
    • Low-light pedestrian detection
    • Cyclist detection
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane departure warning
  • Adaptive cruise control with stop & go
  • Active Lane Positioning Assist (centring)
  • Automatic post-collision braking system
  • Automatic hazard light activation
  • Surround-view camera
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Driver attention warning
  • Tyre pressure monitoring

Standard specification of the Peugeot 308 GT Sport PHEV hatch largely mirrors the GT Premium hatch, but a number of unique features besides the Type 2 charging port include hybrid exterior badging, a Cyan LED “Zero Emission Driving” indicator light, specific electric and hybrid drive modes, and a Mode 2 cable for charging with a storage bag.

There’s also an acoustic vehicle alerting system that generates audible external sound when travelling at low speeds to alert pedestrians.

The Peugeot 308 GT Sport PHEV is available in six exterior paint colours. These include Olivine Green as standard; Artense Grey and Nera Black for an additional $690; and Pearl White, Vertigo Blue, and Elixir Red for an additional $1050.

Pricing for the 2023 Peugeot 308 range is as follows:

  • 2023 Peugeot 308 GT hatch: $43,990
  • 2023 Peugeot 308 GT Premium hatch: $48,990
  • 2023 Peugeot 308 GT Premium wagon: $50,490
  • 2023 Peugeot 308 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid hatch: $64,990 (NEW)
