Marriott International plans to expand its portfolio in Greater China by 47 hotels by the end of 2023, the company announced Tuesday. This reflects an increase in Marriott’s expansion plans following the company’s November announcement that it would open 30 hotels in Greater China in 2023.
After the expansion, Marriott will have more than 500 hotels and 150,000 rooms in the region, according to the company. The expansion also highlights Marriott’s investment in its select-service brands, which represent more than half of the planned openings in the region, according to the company.
With brand “debuts in emerging cities and destinations” as “key drivers of the expansion,” the company expects the property “additions will help inspire domestic travel by enabling guests to explore new areas in first- and second-tier cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou [and] Hangzhou,” the company said.
