Dacia’s next-generation Duster SUV spied

The third-generation Dacia Duster has been spied during testing, featuring the brand’s new design language previewed by the 2021 Bigster concept.

While Australia has missed out on the current Duster, the next-generation model may hit our shores around 2025.

New spy photos show the Duster adopting the Bigster’s front-end design, including slim LED daytime running lights, air intakes on either side of the front bumper as well as the new Dacia logo. Also similar are the wheel-arch extensions.

Under the black and white camouflage it appears the vehicle has very similar LED tail lights to that of the concept also.

A noticeable difference between the Duster and the Bigster concept is its door handles.

This spied prototype has regular door handles rather than flush handles for the front driver and passenger side doors. However, the rear door handles continue on the C-pillar.

The new third-generation Duster is expected to grow and offer a more spacious interior.

Overseas reports suggest the upcoming Duster could use either the CMF-B or CMF-C platform. It currently uses the B0+ platform, a version of the first-generation Duster’s platform.

“Renault [is working] now to ensure that our requirements for ADRs are engineered into the vehicle from an early stage of the car’s development,” said Renault Australia boss Glen Sealey last year.

The current second-generation Duster missed out on an Australian debut as it wouldn’t have passed the ADR side-impact regulations.

The third-generation model is expected to go on sale in Europe in 2024, which means we could expect to see it in Australia sometime in 2025.

The Duster is uniquely positioned as one of the cheapest vehicles in its segment in Europe – Dacia is Renault’s budget brand – and offers some off-road capability.

Dacia has sold over two million Dusters globally since 2010.

The upcoming model will be produced in Mioveni, Romania like the current model.
