The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has added three electric vehicles (EVs) to its fleet, including a Tesla Model 3.
It’s part of a new pilot program aimed at reducing emissions and supporting the state’s zero-emissions vehicle strategy.
The electric vehicles – one Model 3, and two other unspecified EVs – were obtained in November last year and are currently being trialled to determine if battery-powered vehicles are a long-term viable option for its first responders.
QFES has confirmed they’ll be trialled for the duration of their three-year leases.
The vehicles will be located across various stations, and the nature of their use will change depending on day-to-day needs of QFES personnel.
This isn’t the first time our first responders have looked to electric vehicles to fill their fleet.
Back in 2021, the New South Wales Police Force’s Crime Prevention Unit introduced the Hyundai Kona Electric to its fleet.
Later that year the Queensland Police added a hydrogen fuel-cell Hyundai Nexo to its fleet, while in 2022 the Western Australia Police Force added an Ioniq 5.
