Recall Notice: Yeti recalls 1.9 million coolers and gear cases

A recall notice was issued on March 9th regarding a safety hazard with the use of Yeti’s soft coolers and gearboxes that utilize magnetic closures. According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, “The magnet-lined closures can fail and result in detached magnets, posing a risk of serious injury or death if ingested.” Yeti’s voluntary recall impacts the following products: Hopper M20 Soft Backpack, Hopper M30 Soft Cooler (1.0 and 2.0), and SideKick Dry Gear Case. The recall affects 1.9 million units that were sold from March 2018 to January 2023. These items could be found at merchants in the U.S. and Canada for outdoor retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, ACE Hardware, Academy Sports + Outdoors, as well as online stores at YETI and Amazon.

The notice comes after the US Consumer Product Safety Commission claims 1,399 reports of the magnets-lined closures have failed or degraded. Presently, no injuries have been reported, but the safety hazard remains. Yeti has advised, “all customers that have a recalled product to immediately stop the use of these products.” If you have bought any of these items that are impacted, Yeti has created an online form to assist in returning the product to replace or receive a refund. The replacement product will be of equal or greater value, while the refund is in the form of a Yeti Gift card. The value of these products ranges from $50 to $350. If you are affected by this recall, you can fill out and submit the form online linked here.
