Mahindra is currently pushing to reach new urban buyers in Australia with its new SUVs, and plans to scale up its dealer by 20 per cent over the next 12 months.
The company currently has 50 dealers and aims to have a total of 60 in the next 12 months. This equates to a 20 per cent increase, Mahindra Automotive Australia national manager Ankit Taneja told media at the launch of the Scorpio SUV.
The Indian carmaker’s dealer network is currently geared more towards rural and regional buyers, but Mr Taneja said the company is planning to open dealers in metropolitan Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Canberra.

Scorpio
Mahindra recently unveiled its new brand identity which includes the new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo. This will be incorporated into a new corporate identity that will filter its way across Australian dealerships throughout this year.
Mahindra Group vice president and head of international operations Joydeep Moitra said “Australia is critical in the scale up” of the company.
As recently reported, the Scorpio six-seat body-on-frame SUV is now on sale in Australia. The two-variant range starts at $41,990 drive-away, and extends to $44,990 drive-away until June 30, 2023.

XUV700
The Scorpio measures in at 4662mm long, 1917mm wide, and 1857mm tall with a 2750mm wheelbase. This makes it a similar size to the mid-sized unibody Subaru Forester, though it’s technically a Large SUV according to FCAI protocols.
Mahindra also plans to launch its sleeker-looking XUV700 seven-seater SUV later this year in Australia. This model was first revealed in August 2021 and will replace the XUV500 that was sold locally until 2021.
In addition to these new SUVs, the Indian carmaker continues to sell its Pik-Up ute locally. A new-generation model is expected to be revealed in the future and be based on the latest Scorpio’s body-on-frame architecture.

Upcoming range of EVs
Mahindra has also confirmed it plans to bring at least one of the company’s upcoming range of electric vehicles (EVs) to Australia. They will likely launch here around 2025 or 2026.
