Kia Carnival will get camper van therapy

American aftermarket company Unicamp has converted a Kia Carnival to include a pop-up rooftop tent.

The company specialises in turning Kia Carnivals into comfortable tourers.

The Unicamp Pop Top features a retractable rooftop tent that can sleep two people when opened.

The addition stretches 2250mm long and 1050mm tall, and can be opened within five seconds via a click of a button that can sync via the Kia key fob.

This conversion is not for the indecisive with the redesign cutting a large hole in the roof of the Carnival to accommodate the pop top.

The new roof features air vents, integrated lighting, a fly net and a beige tessellated ceiling.

The floor can support 219kg.

The company also allows the rear seats to be removed to accomodate for a modular rear kitchen and additional bed, which carries an additional cost of US$4000 (AU$6044).

Currently customers can take advantage of an introductory offer for US$16,000 (AU$24,165) with New Atlas reporting the retail price will increase to US$18,000 (AU$27,191).

For now, these conversions appear to be for the US market only.

Locally, the Carnival range starts from $51,690 before on-road costs and tops out at $71,890 for the Carnival Platinum diesel.

While these Carnivals aren’t converted at the Kia factory, other manufactures offer a factory-backed camper option. These include the Mercedes-Benz V-Class-based Marco Polo and the Volkswagen California Beach.
