April 2023 Grocery Spending – A Wholesome Slice of Life

I considered skipping this post because I figured the data would be super skewed on the low end since we were out of town for a solid 9 days. However, joke is on me because somehow I managed to still spend plenty at the grocery store for the 2/3 of the month we were in town.

April did include a hearty loading up at Costco, totaling over $250 in one trip for basics like coffee, oats, flour, rice, spaghetti, etc. Luckily that means my pantry is decently stocked and should be beneficial towards May’s grocery spending.

Still, I think we are in a stage where we just spend a lot on groceries. I focus on feeding everyone produce and protein, the kids are at active and growing stages where they eat a lot, and as we all know, inflation is sincere. I’m grateful to be able to afford and access groceries, even if it isn’t always fun to see the total at the end of the month. Ok, let’s take a look!

Whole Foods $225.25
Publix $128.77
Costco $606.35
Food Lion $28.75
Butcher Box $208.08
TOTAL $1,197.20

We will be in town for most of May and the weather is shifting into warmer temperatures (well, after this week of temperatures being in the 60’s). I know that will have me gravitating towards grilling and lighter meals, so I’m stocking up my Butcher Box with family favorites like drumsticks, steaks, and ground chicken (for making quick and easy chicken burger patties).

One day I’d love to get back to wandering farmers market and buying more local; spring always awakens that feeling in me. I loved doing that so much with babies and toddlers, but now our Saturday mornings are usually at the soccer field, so I’ll enjoy this phase, too. Maybe as we creep towards summer… ahh I love the shift of seasons! Are you a farmers market shopper?
