Act quick: Fabulous award availability at Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort into 2024

Some hotels are harder to book with points than others, and the beachfront Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort in Hyatt’s family of resorts is usually one of the harder ones to snag with your points.

Even when standard rooms are available for booking with World of Hyatt points, there is often a longer minimum stay requirement, which obviously doesn’t work if you’re hoping to stay there for a couple of nights as part of a longer trip to the island.

However, right now, award availability at the hotel is much better than normal. This may be your chance to live out your Hawaii vacation dreams using your Hyatt points (and stay very close to the resort where the first season of “The White Lotus” was filmed).

Deal basics

Hotel chain: Hyatt.
Property: Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort.
How to book: Directly with the resort.
Travel dates: Availability at the current rate through March 2024, excluding September 2023.
Book by: ASAP.

How to book

As first reported by Thrifty Traveler, we are seeing amazing standard room availability (often without a long minimum stay requirement) throughout most of 2023 and into 2024.

As a Category 8 Hyatt (which is a one-category increase as of March 2023), the Andaz Maui at Wailea will cost you 35,000-45,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

For example, TPG managing editor Clint Henderson found a king room in November 2023 at 40,000 points per night, compared to a cash price of $1,302, including taxes and fees.

That’s a value of about 3.2 cents per World of Hyatt point, which is well above TPG’s valuation of 1.7 cents per point. Part of the reason the return is so high is that you don’t pay resort fees on Hyatt award stays.

If you are flexible with timing, search different months for points availability since this deal lasts through 2023 and extends into the new year, and award prices vary from 35,000-45,000 points per night.

If you are lacking in World of Hyatt points at the moment but have Chase Ultimate Rewards points or Bilt Rewards points burning a hole in your pocket, you can transfer Chase points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio. Bilt points transfer at the same ratio.

If you are missing out on the deal this go-around but want to build up your stash of points for future Hyatt deals, here are three credit cards to get you going:

  • Chase Sapphire Preferred Card: The welcome bonus is currently increased to 80,000 points after spending $4,000 on the card in the first three months.
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve: Earn 60,000 points after spending $4,000 on the card in the first three months.
  • World of Hyatt Credit Card: Earn 30,000 bonus points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in your first three months from account opening, plus up to 30,000 more bonus points by earning 2 bonus points total per $1 spent in the first six months from account opening on purchases that normally earn 1 bonus point, on up to $15,000 spent.

Bottom line

Given the popularity of this property — and really all of Hawaii — plus its proximity to fame (thanks to “The White Lotus”), we won’t be shocked if this availability doesn’t stick around for long.
