How you can Make a Scrumptious 1-2-3-4 Cake With Fudge Frosting and Variations

One of the easiest cakes to remember without searching for the recipe in your cookbook or recipe box is this 1-2-3-4 cake since it got its name by how the ingredients are measured out. This particular one happens to be my mother’s favorite sheet cake with more of a pound cake texture topped with fudge frosting. However, she also makes it with more baking powder for a lighter version of this cake when the mood suits her. Either way, this recipe is delicious and one that won’t let you down.

1-2-3-4-Cake with Fudge Frosting, cut

You can sing out the order of the ingredients as you prepare this cake like a song to keep the recipe in your mind as you work. It may sound silly to bother, but it is fun especially if you are teaching this recipe to children.

The fudge frosting is decadent to compliment this yellow cake. It is a thick, creamy deep chocolate that spreads wonderfully and stiffens to coat this cake like fudge, which is incredible for any chocolate lover.

Another great change of pace is adding one-half teaspoon peppermint extract along with one-half teaspoon of the vanilla for a new variation.

If you give my recipe a chance, I really think that you will love this simple cake. You also may want to try my special gold cake recipe and my eggless yellow cake. Also, I do suggest browsing my search box for more great homemade cake recipes from scratch.

2 cups of sugar
3 cups of sifted all-purpose flour
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 teaspoon of baking powder, leveled (for pound cake texture) to 3 teaspoons for regular cake
1 cup of milk
1 teaspoon of salt

Fudge Frosting

3 cups of confectioners’ sugar
½ cups unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup of milk + 1 tablespoon
1/4 cup of softened butter

To Prepare the Cake:

Cream the butter with the sugar in a large mixing bowl throughly until fluffy.

Add the eggs to the creamed ingredients, one at a time and continue creaming to thoroughly combine.

Now add a little at a time of the sifted dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and beat them in with your electric mixture, alternating with the milk and vanilla until all the ingredients are combined.

Pour the batter into a well-greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch cake pan.

Bake in a 350-degree oven for about 35 minutes, depending on how your oven is regulated. Test with a toothpick, cake tester or slender knife to see if anything sticks can determine if your cake is finished baking.

Cool before frosting with fudge frosting.

To Prepare the frosting:

Cream the frosting ingredients until fluffy.

ENJOY!
